Painted Dish Towels

I love using cute dish towels as a way to decorate for the season. I usually buy the cheap ones at target in the Dollar Spot because they have fun ones for just about every holiday. The only problems is that they don’t hold up so well in the washing machine. I decided to go ahead and try my hand at painting my own, since then the would a least be my own design and exactly what I wanted.

I bought tea towels to use since their surface is smooth and I thought the paint would adhere easily. I was shocked when a pack of 5 only cost me about $5 (thats cheaper than that Target ones that are $2.50 for 2!). I also picked up some fabric paint in yellow, orange, teal, and metallic red (I was in a rush and didn’t realize it was metallic until I started painting. Oh well). I wanted to do a set for Fall and then a regular every day set. I used my Silhouette Cameo to print out the design I wanted and used that as a stencil on the first set.

For the teal set I used an actual stencil I already had. The lines weren’t as clean as the vinyl stencil, but I’m still pretty happy with the outcome.

The paint has to cure for 72 hours, but after that they are machine washable and ready for use! This was a very easy and inexpensive project. I can’t wait to make more for the holidays!
